Review: Duncan Gray - Weak Nuclear Force
You know you’ve got a winner when Ewan Pearson opens his Glastonbury set with your tune and that’s exactly what happened with Weak Nuclear Force.
Label Don Duncan Gray has been in the leading pack this year with his Tici Taci label showcasing the likes of the Gemini Brothers, Future Bones, Dawad/Mokic, Iko & Gibb and Kieran Holden.
The label has also allowed Duncan to showcase his own productions with last year's biggest hit for Tici Taci being Rich Lane's remix of "Chugboat". Now 12 months later the release of Weak Nuclear Force (17th July) sees Duncan and Rich back in action together.
Duncan’s Original makes me feel like I’m 15 again, the glorious Electro funk break fools my mind and makes me think I’m able to drop into a perfectly executed windmill from my over stated flamboyant burnout. The driving bassline and contagious hook grab you instantly. Another Tici Taci classic in the making.
The nicest man in chug returns to sprinkle magic over his version of Weak Nuclear Force. Rich Lane will graciously deny this but his productions have a consistency and clarity that ensure headline sets always feature a ‘Lane’ production (just YouTube ALFOS Rich Lane and you’ll see what I mean) and he totally delivers here. Mechanized vocals greet you before a more acidic tinged hook from the original peppers your brain, strap yourself in and enjoy the ride.
Iberian trio Cannibal Ink see out the release with their remix. Now this may come as a surprise for those familiar with Cannibal Ink's darker tracks and remixes but the boys throw in a proper curve ball for your listening pleasure. Equally intense in the right places but a real summer vibe to their interpretation.
