Review: Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca - Kachiri EP
The Italo Disco legends Daniele Baldelli and DJ Rocca bring their Kachiri EP on Nein Records. Available digitally on the 25th May and a very Gucci looking (limited) 3 x 12” vinyl release due later in June, they bring a veritable who’s who of producing talent to give us their interpretations.
1. Kachiri – Ivan Smagghe “Crossed Edit”
Don’t be fooled by the opening chords! I initially wrote dark and moody as an opening gambit but Ivan is a clever fellow, his “Crossed Edit” twists and turns pulling you through a full range of emotions which keeps the listener engaged and wondering where his eclectic groove will take you next.
2. Volupia – Kasper Bjorke’s “Kokomo Mix”
The acclaimed Danish producer Kasper Bjorke brings a tropical sun-drenched vibe to his interpretation of Volupia, tweaks and stabs ride over an undercurrent (sorry) of running water and positively Caribbean keys make you feel like you are miles away.
3. Pink Ghost – Man Power “One More Week Mix”
The Berlin based face hiding enigma which is Man Power brings us a sure fire belter, throwing spacey delayed chords over a deep and driving bassline builds to a crescendo before slapping you around the ears again with a ferocious blend of the afore mentioned elements. Heavy duty damage
4. Pink Ghost – Jamie Paton Mix.
Mr Paton dubs out Pink Ghost with a cosmic grooving bassline which drives deep into the pit of your stomach, tight stabs combine with wonky synths and subtle chords add to a sumptuous tight arrangement which is top class.
5. Pink Ghost – 2 Mamarrachos Remix
Jaime Sagastibeltza & Borja Campion or the Two Mamarrachos as you might know them get hold of Pink Ghost and give it some San Sebastian love. The monster 11 min track really keeps the listener engaged with subtle builds and a deliciously funky groove.
6. Kachiri – Craig Bratley Remix
Magic Feet Don and ever consistent Mr Bratley drops a tough groove that adds moody synths to the mix featuring Tici Taci head honcho Duncan Gray on guitar and bass.
The variety of talent on show across all of the tracks on the Kachiri EP is like the perfect hand if you were playing Producer Top Trumps. Each track is so diverse and unique anyone would have a tough job putting their finger on a favourite. I’m going to give this a 9 out of 10 and anyone would think reading my review of Tronik Youths “Healer” release that I’m on Nein’s books, I can assure you I’m not .
Credit where credits due, Nein have just pushed the bar that little bit higher.
9/10
