Review: Alda - Night Wolf
2015 was a great year for Teniente Castillos Play Pal music.
From the Sake Remix EP by Mushrooms Project back in February, their Pals Vol 3 Compilation in May right through to Duncan Gray’s Proper Bogan in August and Dawad & Mokic with MetroSexual EP in September Mr Castillo has continually bought fresh production talent to his label and he closed the year out on an equal high with the inclusion of ALDA or Alexandre David’s “Night Wolf EP” which dropped on the 28th December. |
Nantes man ALDA has Johnson and Fkclub on remix duty also as well as sonic magnate and all round top man Rich Lane on board to sprinkle his Cotton Bud Mastering magic over the release too.
Night Wolf
The EP’s title track `Night Wolf` starts with a sharp as a knife bass line, strong pulsing rhythms and ethereal pulses that blend with haunted echoed stabs and claps which add additional depth to this track which ebbs and flows throughout. The Claw `The Claw` hastens the pace as deliciously deep keys build the listeners anticipation before a maniacal robot wasp enters your ears before allowing you head to really snap back into the rhythm. llime `llime` slaps you right in the face from the start with fearsome percussion which sets you up nicely before layering heavier elements into the mix. It has a real (I think) jackin feel to it which appeals to my long forgotten teenage self but bought right up to date by Alda The Claw (Johnson Remix) The Johnson remix of `The Claw` sounds like the soundtrack to an insane asylum resident’s nightmare. The melodic wailing vocal and relentless taunting rhythmic elements will have you rocking like an inmate. llime (Fkclub Remix) Fk me ! (sorry had to) the Johnson remix was good but Fkclub’s take on `llime` continues the theme with more insane shenanigans. From the offset you know this is going to be good. A tripped out guitar filled adventure awaits for the lucky listener, this my friends is going to do some damage. 8/10 Michael Prestage |
