Numb Mixtape: Terry Childs - Nibiru Transitions
Nibiru resident Terry Childs serves us a superb mixtape ahead of their last party of the year, info below.
The Nibiru calendar draws to a close for another year as we welcome a very special guest. Joining our resident Terry Childs is Lord of the Isles (LOTI).
Lord of the Isles (Firecracker / Permanent Vacation / Phonica)
LOTI aka Neil McDonald has built up a discerning dance floor nobility and has been turning heads and moving feet with a string of well received releases on respected labels such as LA’s Adult Contemporary and Japan’s Ene Records. He has also showcased on the likes of German based outfit Permanent Vacation as well as Discodromo and Boris’s (Ostgut Ton) Cocktail D’Amore. His sound sits comfortably between Planet E techno and mid tempo soulful house chuggers, with squelches and bubbles in all the right places. Highly sophisticated deep-disco house movements, encrusted with splurges of sonic texture, he has mastered a rare sorcery where warm, fluid basslines and epic breakdowns are consistent in all his productions, which take you from Detroit to Chicago to New York and across the pond to the Balearics.
Very rarely does one artist make such an impact with a handful of releases. So much so that LOTI has amassed a long list of both seasoned and new school DJs with support from the masters like David Mancuso, DJ Harvey, Andrew Weatherall through to the disco heads like Danny Wang, Discodromo and natives Fudge Fingas and Linkwood. Versatility has become somewhat of a LOTI trademark with all his EPs including up tempo and down tempo style tracks effortlessly.
Sure to be one of the tracks of 2015 ‘XIT’ is due for release on Nautilus Rising in September having become a staple of Dixon’s sets in recent months. A further EP is also on its way later this year.
It’s time for the Lord to rule once more.
The Venue – Bar A Bar, 133-135 Stoke Newington Road, London, N16 Located beneath a convenience store on Stoke Newington Rd, you’ll find Bar A Bar. A no frills, intimate party basement. Low ceiling, modest décor and a solid sound system combine with the top bar staff to create an environment where dancers thrive. Find your way down the stairs into the haze and you’re guaranteed not to leave until the lights come on. Still relatively unknown, it has managed to maintain an underground feel whilst having recently hosted top selectors including Prosumer, Telephones, Paramida, DJ Fett Burger, Khidja and DJ Sotofett. This is Hackney’s best kept secret.
