Numb Mixtape - Grant Williams
|
Balearic wizards Coyote bring their ''Too Late to be Scared' EP to the masses on the newly formed Eclectics label today. To celebrate label boss man Grant Williams graces the hallowed Numb halls this month on the Mixtape.
Grant stopped by for a chat with us at Numb towers to talk labels, blogs and all things Eclectics. Why not buy the EP, press play on the mix and have a read with us ……… NM) Welcome to Numb Magazine Grant and thanks for the Numb Mix, could you tell our readers a little bit about who you are?
GW) Do I have too? Was the first response that came to mind, ha sorry! Before I forget thanks for inviting me to do a mix and answer a few questions for you guys. Who am I? Well first and foremost I'm a partner to my Fiance Julie and a step Dad to 2 beautiful children. My family is what keeps me grounded nowadays. Let’s put it like this my past is colourful, more than just in the psychedelic way. I started going 'out' from about the age of 14. Blimey looking across the living room from where I type this our daughter sits playing with her IPad aged 11. She won't be going to Acid parties in 3 years let’s put it that way...! I did though and that’s how dance music came into my life via the warehouses in the Eastend of London. So to sum it up I’m a Dad, a partner, an Acid house veteran (with all the scars) who has a big passion for music. NM) Most people associate you with the Eclectics Blog (check out https://eclectics.co/) can you tell us a little bit about how that came about? GW) Eclectics was born in the summer of 2015. Micky and I had been pals for years prior. We put on an all-day charity event for a local Arts Fringe Festival 'BEAF', it went really well and we thought lets have some more of that..... We then set up the Eclectics music page on Facebook which grew and grew and continues to do so. Since then our collective mainly consists of four. Micky Browne, Nick Shearer, Matt Richards and myself we've put on Pop-Ups oh and we had a little residency at the Somerley Tea party festival, mixes for radio shows, mixes for blogs and set up a blog of our own and now we’ve started the label. NM) How did the idea for the label come about and what advice would you have for any wannabee label owners out there? GW) While curating the blog I started making friends with the DJ's and Producers that I was promoting or getting mixes from... So at the tail end of last year I asked a few producers I respected if they would be interested in releasing some music on our Digital (for now) label. The response was really good.. To be honest shortly after that we went on a 2 month trip to Mexico the label idea went to the back of my mind. Two months passed and I got a message from Timm Sure of Is It Balearic? Timm is one half of Coyote alongside Richard Hampson. Anyway, he sent a track over as promised being the dude he is and there you have it! .'Too Late Be Scared' is our debut 3 track Ep available now on Bandcamp and Juno Download. Regarding advice for setting up a Label? I'm finding out it takes time and love to get the results you want.. And it's a huge learning curve in lots of areas. Tech, language barriers, being understanding, Not being too keen and cutting corners.. The list can go on and on.. So unless you have a genuine love of music, fronting money , enjoy lots and lots of emails, are able to not compare yourself to other labels and not scared of failing then do it.. Just dig deep and follow your dreams. NM) What does the future hold for Grant Williams and Eclectics? GW) More of the same, but fine-tuned! We have been asked to play at Alfresco this year, wow! It's amazing to be a part of that one!!!! I hope the label grows into something that produces some true quality for years to come and stick to our motto of ‘Promoting well being through the medium of music’. Again thanks for asking us onto Numb...Grant |
