Review: The Sonic Emporium - Atarashii

Picture
If you know your shit then you’ll know that Simon Lister and Peter Wilson are PEOPLE GET REAL, and you’ll know that their label ‘Join Our Club’ has steadily gained a reputation for quality releases from new artists, and bringing something new and unexpected from the more established ones.

‘Atarashii’ has been described as a “night drive around a silent metropolis” but my initial thoughts are that it feels like a “tense chase through a metropolis”, which by the way feels great. The tension within the track is immense, it builds and builds as the crisp hats make way for the pulsing driving keys and nagging bells taunt you until you can’t take any more. Hauntingly brilliant.

On the flip ‘Swimming’ is a completely different affair, a twisted trippy excursion which is my personal favourite of the two tracks. “What song did the sirens sing on their enchanted island?” greets you before bombarding your senses with a dazzling combination of sounds. My only complaint is that the track isn’t longer! Stretched edit gents??
I’ve long been a fan of People get Real and their label so it will be no surprise that I think the Atarashii EP is quality. Keep em coming fella’s pure class
